Features
A location check is a question, not surveillance. The other person is always told you asked, and gets time to answer before anything is shared.

Open a group, pick a person and tap Check Location.
They're told you asked, and a countdown starts on their phone.
They tap I'm Safe to answer without their location, or I'm Here to share it straight away.
If the countdown runs out with no answer, their location is shared with the group.
Nobody can look you up without you knowing. Every location check sends you a notification saying who asked.
The countdown is on by default, and you set how long it runs in Settings. Answer I'm Safe at any point before it ends and no location is sent.
If you'd rather skip the wait, you can turn the delay off so a check shares your location straight away.
The person who can't answer is often the one who most needs to be found. So when the countdown runs out, your location is shared, even if the app is closed. That's the safety net that makes it reasonable not to track anyone the rest of the time.
Every member of a group has the same tools. No member can see more than any other, and a location is only ever visible to members of your own groups.
ImSafe keeps only the last location you shared with each group, not a history of where you've been.
Your teenager said they'd be home by eleven and it's half past. A friend left the party alone and hasn't replied. An older parent isn't picking up the phone. These are the moments a location check is for: you're worried, and you need an answer.
Most of the time the answer is simply I'm Safe, and that's enough. When it isn't, and the person can't respond, their location reaches the group so someone can help.
Each person sets their own countdown in Settings, anywhere from 1 minute to 4 hours. It starts at 5 minutes. A short countdown suits someone who wants to be found quickly if anything goes wrong. A longer one gives more time to answer before a location is shared.
Location trackers usually give one person a constant view of another. That can feel caring to the person watching, and controlling to the person being watched. A location check works differently. Every request is visible, every person can answer before anything is shared, and nobody gets more access than anyone else in the group.
That makes it easier to agree to. Teenagers, partners and grown-up children who would never accept round-the-clock tracking are often happy to answer a check when someone is genuinely worried.
No. Every location check sends you a notification saying who asked, every time.
ImSafe can only share a location your phone can send. If your phone is off or has no connection, the group sees the last location you shared and how long ago that was.
Yes. Tap I'm Safe at any point before the countdown ends, and no location is sent. The countdown only shares your location if you don't answer at all.
Only people in a group you've joined. Everyone in a group has the same tools, so you can check on them in exactly the same way.
